Simplify

Lately I have been completely obsessed with podcasts. Specifically the How I Built This podcast and I had this life changing moment listening to Yvon the owner of Patagonia and hearing his story. I was so so so inspired – like really felt the need to seriously change some things about my life. I have thought about these things before so it really hit me hearing him talk about them. You will have to listen to the episode to really get the full message but he talked a lot about how important it is so buy things that we plan to keep for a very long time. And he also said how people tend to think a minimal/simple life is an impoverished life but it is in fact a rich life. That resonated with me because especially these last couple years I have felt really frivolous with what I purchase. I will admit that I tend to love to switch things up a lot – especially with clothes. I love to have a variety of winter coats and dresses in all variations of colors etc. But it starts to feel a bit claustrophobic with so much stuff. Not even just in reference to clothes but baby toys and house stuff etc. I want to try to be much more thoughtful with spending and instead of quickly buying a tent for an upcoming camping trip, really research what is the best for our family and what will last us years and years to come. I also really want to go through and just declutter our life. Anyways, I was just really inspired by that one and it got me thinking a lot! Not saying I am overnight going to be minimalist — I literally want to but am trying not to stress myself out and do a complete 180 — but I definitely want to take steps in that direction starting with decluttering and not impulse buying. (note that it will take some time for me to totally narrow down 1. my lipstick collection and 2. my swimsuit and dress collection haha) I also became so obsessed with Yvon and his views on life that I watched 180 Degrees South which is a movie (on Netflix) about his first trip down to Patagonia and a guy who recreates the trip – anyways that is also inspiring and makes you think a lot about how you live your life. He also has a book that I want to listen to while at the gym, I will let ya know what I think. But I lovvved how he runs his business and I guess the book is a bit about that. (also fun fact: David’s parents until about 3 months ago, were living in Patagonia serving a mission!)

As for a fitness update – some of you have asked!!! I have been working really hard to be diligent about getting to the gym and lifting weights and trying to up the weight each time and really take my time and do everything slow and right. I currently go about 5 times a week. I haven’t been amazing about my eating and I know that plays a MAJOR role in building muscle so I am making that my next goal to get started with that. I don’t like to overwhelm myself with too many goals at once so getting back into the groove with working out was my first goal. You guys gave me TONS of good recommendations for a health coach on insta (so thankkkk youuu x 100!!!) and I have found a few people I want to reach out to and see if they have openings. Although I just want to stress again that I am not doing this to “look better” or any other reason than it is a new goal that I am excited to push myself and work towards. I like to try new things and this is something new that I can challenge myself with physically. Some people like to say I am “too skinny” or I should gain muscle to be a role model for young girls and I think its super important to remember that all women and girls can be a role model REGARDLESS of what their body type is. Skinny or strong or curvy or pear shaped or whatever – you are a role model when you are striving to be your best self. END OF STORY.

These photos are from Sunday night! It was a stormy night with lightening and thunder and it was sprinkling. I love hot thunderstorms in Arizona. So I love to be outside and in them! We decided to roast s’mores in our fire pit. It was a lot of fun because I love hearing the kids and their excited voices.

PS let me know if you listen to the podcast or watch the movie and what you think of it!

PSS I am having a little sale tomorrow and selling a bunch of our clothes, shoes, activewear, and lots of stuff. You can see the details here. All money received will go to help someone in need.
