I’ve been sitting on this post for far too long. Frankly, I’ve been avoiding writing it because that would require me to look at myself. You may recall Christina Lonsdale of Radiant Human from Season 1 of Healers, a creative visionary who has found a way to capture our true energy in color and light through photographer. I practically begged her to bring her pop-up booth to Minneapolis then wound up meeting her at GOOP’s wellness event in LA where she captured my aura. I thought I had died and gone to heaven—at first.
That big ORANGE cloud means creative, confident, independent, collaborative, have great people skills, and love a good challenge. All true. The RED border around the orange represents strength, will power, leadership, action, practicality, passion, and new beginnings. Hello Type A entrepreneur who’s getting married! The PURPLE haze on the left is a sign of a visionary—unconventional, nonjudgemental, playful, loves to be inspired and delight in others. That’s the podcast through and through.
Then the whopper. Christina gently pointed out that I have no aura, no color, from the neck down. All of my energy is in my head. I’m literally disconnected from my heart and my body. Ugggghhh. The yoga, the meditation, the mindfulness, the spiritual conversations . . . where have these gotten me if I’m still just living on a hamster wheel?! (Check out Radiant Human you’ll see what it looks like to be surrounded in a cloud of color). I was so sure I’d gotten the hang of staying present and grounded, the fact that my reaction was to beat myself up for not taking a better aura photo pretty much says it all.
So here I go, not back to the beginning, but on a renewed mission to get out of my head—and my laptop, iphone and to-do list—at least one day a week. When you work for yourself it’s easy to work every second of the day. But that leaves no room for creativity, new ideas, to simply be with what is and see how that feels. Giving myself time and space to journal, go to a museum or sit in a park with no other goal than to get back into my heart and body feels completely unnatural and indulgent, but what if it’s exactly what I need? The orange in me is up for the challenge.
