Celebs, bloggers, and fashion-forward It girls are all adding a mauveish-red hue to the eye — and it’s on purpose. This burnt brick look (as we’ve dubbed it) is anything but sickly or random. It’s almost like red and gold fell in love and had a baby. The hues are warm and seasonal and look great on all skin tones.
We enlisted celebrity makeup artist, Emma Day, who has worked with Karlie Kloss and Bella Hadid, to give us the how to on fall’s fresh eye look:
“The burnt brick/red smokey eye is one of the standout beauty looks of the season,” explains Emma. “It’s uber-flattering and soft and can be especially stunning on blue or green eyes; it’s all about that luminizing and dreamy metallic gleam which can be swept across the lids and brought underneath the lower lash line with high-lights of gold or silver in the corner of the eyes. Soften the outer corners of the eye with your fingers. No hard lines with this with this, so leave your liquid liner in your makeup bag. But if you want an extra bit of definition, use a soft brown kohl pencil and smudge it softly into the lash line. Curl lashes and use a dark brown mascara.”
Emma’s Product Recommendations:
5 Couleurs Precious Rocks Fidelity Colours & Effects Eyeshadow Palette in Ruby ($63), which has the perfect shades for this. They blend like a dream.
I also love the texture of the Cleu de Peau Eye Quads in 316 ($55). This kit is essential for me.
Also Nars Isolde Eye Duo ($36) are excellent shades.
